Now that Miles is finally sleeping I have a quick chance to write some blog posts! No update last week so I feel really bad as I’ve been pretty consistent on writing something to feature here each week. I wouldn’t say things are on any sort of schedule just yet around here with Miles keeping us up ALL night last night, couple that with the one-two punch of also being Daylight Savings Time and the coffee is flowing freely this Sunday morning 🙂

Last night I had the amazing opportunity to photograph an Indian engagement session at ZYKA Indian Restaurant & Banquet Facilities in Decatur, Georgia with Chris Brock of Premier Wedding Photography.

With this being an engagement celebration, things are slightly different from your typical Bollywood/Hollywood wedding you may see on television or in the movies. Saturday night we were privilaged to be witness to the Engagement Ceremony, sometimes referred to as misri, aashirwad, magni, or simply ring ceremony.

Our lucky couple celebrated their union with a mix of traditional with more of a celebratory banquet between the two families.

The blushing bride-to-be was a bit nervous being the center of all of this attention at first, but once we reassured her how absolutely stunning she looked tonight she warmed up to the idea of everyone in the entire room wanting to take photos of her 🙂

The majority of the evening was simply having the two families celebrate their union and congratulate our bride and groom. We did stop for a brief moment to conduct the actual Indian Ring Ceremony to the satisfaction of everyone in attendance.

Imagine it is just you and your fiancee sitting up on a stage while the ENTIRE ROOM crowds around with their cameras ready to snap photos of this moment. You know, no pressure…

After the ring ceremony was complete, the festivities resumed with the union finalized. We even gave the couple a chance to finally grab a bite to eat from the amazing food that ZYKA Indian Restaurant was catering. I snuck a plate at the bride-to-be’s brother’s insistance. I will tell you firsthand that even the catered food was AWESOME. I will have to write a separate blog post just about the food and facilities!

I spent the rest of the evening just enjoying myself with the families and getting sucked into the jovial atmosphere in the room. To say I only had a so-so time would be a HUGE understatement. Do you notice a trend of enthusiasm in this post with all of my CAPITAL LETTERS???

We wish our lucky couple nothing but the best in the future and hope that they book Premier Wedding Photography for their Mehendi Ceremony, Sangeet Ceremony, and Indian Wedding itself because both the couple and their families are some of the kindest people I have ever met.
