Today’s post kicks off a three day blogging spree about the fabulous Indian wedding that Betty and I photographed a few short weeks ago. Why three days of posting? Well with a three day wedding I just think I may have a few more photos than I can reasonably fit into one blog post! I mean it’s already looking very photo-heavy but with three days of activities we felt like more than family by Sunday! Plus, with me out of town from Sunday until Thursday this will help fill the daily blogging requirements.

I met Amir and Nasrine only a few months before the wedding as they were wrapping up the final details, meeting them at their favorite Starbucks up in Lawrenceville for coffee on more than one ocassion. Acutally, I take that back, I have to thank Nasrine’s sister, Momina, for introducing us after she contacted me from California to help plan their wedding. We hit things off great in person and before we knew it the wedding was upon us with Betty as the primary photographer this time and myself as the videographer slash second photographer. Let me just say that most of these photos are from Betty and they came out A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Regular readers and past/future brides will know that usually the primary photographer is myself (Zac) with Betty as the second photographer, but I think this wedding will clearly show that Betty can easily be the primary herself if she wants to!

The first day of events was the Mehndi party which may also be called the henna party, as this is the ceremony where the bride has her henna applied to her hands which will last well through the ceremony and afterwards. Frequently the family will hire a professional henna artist to apply the intricate designs to the hands of the bride and guests. Luckily for Nasrine her family members can do the designs so this was really a family affair as everyone piled into Naz’s house for fun and food!

Speaking of talented family members, Nasrine’s sister Jharine (in the gold and red) really got the dance floor heated up as the Bollywood music pulsed in the background. And by dance floor I mean living room.

We then headed over to Amir’s house to see what the groom and his family were up to. More of the same but without the girls dancing around everywhere to “Desi Girl.” The female family members were having their henna applied and the guys were doing what guys do – just hanging out, joking around, and having a good time!

The guys thought it would be a good idea to go over and crash the girl’s party, so they all loaded up and drove back to Nasrine’s place to attempt to get in. According to tradition the bride and groom cannot see each other before the wedding (even though Amir and Nasrine have been dating since high school), so Nasrine’s family did everything they could to keep the boys out while the guys tried their best to sweat-talk their way in the door.

Trust me when I say this part was pretty funny with water being thrown and general schenanigans that night. The picturews don’t do this justice and I’m glad I had my camera rolling to capture everything for their wedding video.

And so ended the first night of Amir and Nasrine’s wedding. We had a blast that night and knew their was more fun to come! I’m writing this blog post from the road so hang in there while we dedicate a few more days to Amir and Nasrine’s Indian wedding while I’m traveling! Watch this space next week for Brandi and Bryan’s wedding in Athens at the Foundry Park Inn!
