Sophear & Jake's Engagement Session | Freedom Park | Atlanta Wedding Photographer
It feels a bit strange writing this post on Sunday because just yesterday we celebrated Sophear & Jake’s Cambodian wedding ceremony at Oriental Pearl Restaurant in Atlanta Chinatown! Sophear and Jake are two of the most awesome people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and luckily the stars aligned when our friend Khammy mentioned to us that Sophear was engaged and had an upcoming wedding. At first we got the rejection letter… but then, as luck would have it, her photographer had something come up and we were back in the saddle! Good news for us also because we luckily had that weekend open in the busy October Fall wedding season, so it was an absolutely perfect match both in timing and personality because these two are awesome! You may remember them from a post two weeks ago on the blog, click here to see the photos from their bridal glamour session.
Looking back on this engagement session the only thing I wish we did differently was to use these pinwheels more often! Sophear spent a lot of time hand crafting a few props to use, and we ended up getting photos of all of them. However during the beginning “warm up” session is when we had the pinwheels and I sort of wish we used them again later once Sophear and Jake relaxed a bit more and got in the groove of the photo shoot.
We chose Freedom Park because I had recently visited the park with Joanna helping her on a maternity session and I thought it had perfect potential for an engagement session as well. We wanted to find a dog friendly park to bring Sophear & Jake’s two pooches but they ended up nixing that idea because they can apparently get a little rowdy and we didn’t have a fourth person there to watch the pups.
Did I mention how awesome these two are and how much I love them both? This next photo sums it up perfectly. I’m chatting with Jake about the lights or something and he has no idea at all what Sophear is doing behind him =)
Awwww such a cute couple!
The next photo on the left is one of the photos they blew up to be their entrance photo at the wedding’s welcome table. I always love seeing our work in person later on at an event =)
We didn’t have an amazing O-M-G sunset like we did during their bridal portrait session the week before, as the sky went bare by the time sunset rolled around. It still gave us a nice pleasing orange glow to everything so we totally worked it and these two love birds gave me their best!
We walked a bit further down Freedom Park and played around with Sophear’s last set of homemade props. Oooo f/1.2 how I love you…
We made it to the end of the park by the fountain and we were losing light fast, so we played around a bit more with the off camera flash and before moving to the fountain itself.
Sophear you are too precious!! And Jake, you’re such a gentleman to your little lady!!
Congratulations you two on both the engagement and of course the wedding that Betty and I attended last night!! If you are our fan on Facebook then you’ve already seen the previews from the Cambodian wedding celebration. If not… LIKE our page on Facebook right now!
Lots of editing to catch up this week and another wedding we’ve been looking forward to all year: H & E! Just H & E’s wedding next weekend and then Lindsay & Josh’s wedding the week after that and we are D-O-N-E (except Xee and Farhan in December). It’s been a crazy year I can’t believe it’s almost over!
