Justin & Nnete's Surprise Engagement Session | Piedmont Park | Atlanta Midtown Wedding Photographer

After shooting in Piedmont Park this past Friday, looking back on this engagement shoot from February you can really see how the seasons change quickly. We were in similar locations, and the leaf-less trees are now full again and bursting with colors. To say it was a bit chilly on this February evening was a bit of an understatement, even with an unseasonably warm Winter, the three of us happen to choose the one Saturday that it was extra cold! Normally this wouldn’t be that big of a deal, however this engagement session has a bit of a twist to it. Justin and Nnete were in town from Washington, DC and not engaged YET. Justin and I set up a little trap for Nnete that we would meet up at Piedmont Park so that we could just do some practice photo portraits of these two… little did she know that Justin had the ring in his pocket and we were waiting for just the right moment so that he could drop to one knee. To say that Justin was a bit nervous might have been an understatement, but we tried to make everything as “natural” as we could be for the “portrait session.” I wouldn’t be lying if I said it was difficult to fake a portrait session… and not have Nnete notice the ring box in Justin’s back pocket!

Can you tell from the photos that Justin is a little nervous? Once we got to the top of the hill overlooking Midtown, I proceeded to “play with my lights and adjust settings” to give them a bit of space to be alone. Secretly of course I was ready to start snapping away. Once Justin got mentally prepared… he dropped to one knee and asked Nnete for her hand in marriage =)

The immediate reactions afterwards, completely unposed and unscripted. Raw emotion.

Once Nnete calmed down a bit they put their coats back on… yes it was freezing! We took a few more candids as they both reveled in the emotion of what just transpired.

Congratulations you two and way to go Justin! The plan came together perfectly and I’m wishing these two all of the best as they start their next chapter in life and start planning a wedding together!
