2017 Wedding Photography Year in Review
Oppa Wedding Style! Just when you thought 2016 was a pretty good year for wedding photography, along comes 2017 like…
Looking back at 2017, not a whole lot changed with FengLong Photography. Same bat-time, same bat-channel! We’re another year older, another year wiser, and another year of amazing Indian Weddings we got to experience everywhere from New York, to Atlanta, to Asheville, to Connecticut, to Philadelphia, to Washington DC, to Detroit, to Atlanta, to Atlanta, to Atlanta… I did get to venture out here and there for Indian weddings outside of our main cities of New York and Atlanta, which is always a ton of fun, but it’s nice to be in one of my two “homes” for the majority of the year :).
I started the vlog this year! Not that anyone really watches them, don’t worry I’m not quitting the day job of wedding photography to be a YouTube celebrity, but I have a ton of fun making them and reliving the craziness of the wedding weekends so to me it’s worth the hour or so of time to throw it together. I just wish I truly started making these behind the scenes vlogs at the true beginning of 2016, we missed the first couple of weddings of 2016 for a true full year of wedding photography vlogs.
So let’s just jump right into it, and in a semi-coherent manner showcase some of my favorite photographs from 2017’s amazing weddings!
And now for this short SEO break here in the middle of the post because you gotta have that text content so that Google knows we are an Indian wedding photography in New York :D. Speaking of New York, I photographed a good number of couple’s engagement sessions up here in New York City and it’s always so much fun to run around the city showing people the sights and sounds – and getting great photos along the way. Most of the New York City engagement sessions we did were over the Summer when it’s awesome weather in the city, as I type up this post in the mid-30s and a little snow is on the forecast today. Our Summer wedding up here at the Glen Cove Gurdwara and Central Park was amazing, and not just because I got to sleep in my own bed each night, so much fun celebrating with Nick and Talia for their fusion Italian Sikh Indian wedding! Okay, I think that should be enough text blocks for now, time to grab another cup of espresso and scroll through hundreds of wedding photos and find more of my favorites for the next section of this blog post!
I’m finally throwing this post together in early 2018, as per the usual for these best of the year wedding photography posts. I still have the last two weddings of 2017 sitting in my to-do queue that I’m trying to crank out, but Miles was not feeling well today and stayed home from school so here I am stuck downstairs on the couch with him collecting wedding photos from 2017 and checking on his mild fever. In terms of the number of weddings we photographed, it was about a normal year, not too many, not too little, juuuuuust right. Busy enough to renew my Gold Medallion status with Delta traveling back and forth from Atlanta to New York, but not hitting that Platinum like a road warrior consultant :).
I still need to put together a 2017 year end wrap up video, but that never-ending to-do list with 3 full wedding photos to edit, 2 full length videos to edit, 6 video revisions to re-edit, 4 wedding albums to revise… it just keeps getting pushed down the list. Maybe March? April? The good thing is I’m sure 2018 is going to be just as crazy towards the end of the year during the peak holiday season when we have a lot of 3 day weekends which are perfect for Indian weddings, so the 2018 year end video and photo blog posts will be delayed as well, meaning this 2017 post will be “live” for about a year either way :).
This post might grow and evolve a bit as well throughout 2018, if I forgot a wedding or engagement when I was piecing it together, or found another wedding photo I thought was so cool and “omg why didn’t I select this one” to add in later :). For now, enjoy this final SEO wall of text and here I go throwing the last of the amazing Indian wedding photos I can find into this best wedding photography of 2017 blog post!
Scrolling through thousands of wedding photos and it seems I can always find more amazing images that I want to showcase in these “Best of 2017” blog posts. I want to show that perfect mix of authentic moments, cheerful celebrations, and epic portraits… all taken at real weddings in 2017. No stylized shoots or workshops where you have hours with models to make one photo in the perfect conditions. Nope, these are all real weddings or engagement sessions, taken in the heat of the moment, taken in hotel parking lots, photos taken in the quick 10 minute break we found in between the nonstop events of multi-day Indian weddings. Signing off for now, here is the last batch of wedding photos from 2017 that I loved… until I go back and re-edit this blog post to slip in a couple photos here and there that I missed and just HAVE to post!
Thanks to all our wonderful brides and grooms from 2017 for a great year, here’s to 2018!
