Greetings from the Windy City! Lifestyle Portrait Session in Chicago with Cindy
This week Betty and I took a quick trip to Chicago so that Betty could attend a tradeshow taking place at the Navy Pier on Wednesday. We initially booked a late flight on Tuesday so that Betty could go to her class that afternoon, however such is life in the world of a PhD student things switched up after we booked our tickets. Luckily we were able to switch to a 12:00 noon flight with Delta and have an extra half day in Chicago before flying back at 8:00 AM on Thursday so Betty could make her class which was not rescheduled!
I had only been to Chicago one time before about 5 years ago in the Spring, so visiting in the Winter definitely gave a different impression of the Windy City. Talking to friends that live there they said this Winter hasn’t even been bad yet, and that we were there on warm days with a high in the low 30’s – I think “warm” is a relative term here, especially with the wind chill!
After checking into our hotel, the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, we headed down Michigan Avenue to see the sights of the city and walk the Magnificent Mile.
With the recent snowstorm that hit almost the entire United States, there was still a bit of leftover snow covering everything in Chicago from Millennium Park and the Cloud Gate itself to most of the side streets around downtown.
After Tuesday night spent meeting up with Betty’s old Whirlpool colleagues Deepali and Cindy in Chinatown, Wednesday came and Betty was off to her tradeshow all day while I had plenty of free time to wander the streets of Chicago for 8 hours.
Wednesday night we headed down over to the Bucktown section of Chicago where Cindy recently bought a condo and had a gorgeous spare bedroom waiting for us. We settled into the warm condo while Betty and Cindy caught up on old times and snacked on some super-delicious Garrett Popcorn. After a quick walk to Las Palmas for a tasty dinner, we had some time to help Cindy update her photos through an impromptu portrait session!
We had a ton of fun for the 30 minutes or so we spent snapping quick photos and having Cindy be our model. Now Cindy is not a professional model of course, but as you can see she is very photogenic! She always has that huge smile on her face, so these photos come nothing as a surprise. In fact, it was hard to get her to STOP smiling 🙂
Thank you Cindy for the hospitality this week in Chicago! We had a great time catching up in person, and I know Betty was very happy to see you as well. We hope to see you in September when we head up to South Bend for the wedding shoot so you can see Xiao Miles as well!
Lastly, check out the Time Lapse video of Chicago we shot which currently has over 1000 views on Vimeo!
