By some stroke of luck I was actually off from work on Saturday! What does this mean (besides a double rainbow – sorry)? Dragon*Con Parade 2010!! Living in Downtown Atlanta has it’s perks, like being walking distance from the biggest geekfest in the East.

Mom was in town, so all of us walked down to Peachtree to watch the annual Dragon*Con Parade on Peachtree! This was total heaven for me with geekiness and nerdiness for miles around us. I knew about 85% of the costumes, though I doubt Betty did, lol!

Some of the costumes were very very well done, such as the intricate Predator above down to the specific (and still well made) Adam West TV Batman including attacking shark (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0UJaprpxrk).

Some of the costumes were just plain fun too! Seeing all of my favorite super heroes brings back plenty of memories of high school and being one of the super nerds at school. Thinking to where I am now in life, being a camera nerd is very similar just trading comic books and video games for cameras, lenses, and flashes.

We had a great spot on the corner of Woodruff Park across from the Flatiron Building, right where the parade started! The light was great on this crisp September morning with a light breeze keeping things cool. I brought the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII and the Nikon D700 along with a SB-900 to add a bit of fill flash in the shadows.

We had such a great time at the parade, I couldn’t believe I had shot 16 GB of photos and the parade was coming to an end as the Star Wars groups arrived. From the intricate Stormtroopers to Imperial soldiers to Darth Vader himself, nothing quite compares to the Star Wars fans.

Enjoy a few more fun photos from the Dragon*Con Parade – I had such a good time shooting this morning! Back to your regularly scheduled artsy romantic photos next week!
