2012 Georgia Marathon | Centennial Olympic Park | Atlanta Sports Photographer

Lots of quick posts this weekend because we have a lot of events right near our home in Downtown Atlanta! Yesterday we had the 2012 Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade pass a few blocks from our doorstep, and today was the 2012 Georgia Marathon a few blocks the other way. I shot photos at last year’s marathon for the photo contest and had a few do really well with over 50+ “Likes” on Facebook. This year I tried a different location for the start of the race that I had been scouting for the past few weeks. It really gave an interesting perspective but unfortunately I could only shoot there for a few minutes before runners flooded the entire street and took my shooting spot! =)

Neat location along Piedmont Avenue that puts the Georgia State Capital behind the runners. Last year I shot a bit further down Piedmont along the bridge just as the sun was rising and breaking through the clouds for a really cool shot. This year unfortunately we had a very mediocre sunrise. So after shooting a few frames at my State Capital location I ran down to the MLK National Historic Site where the runners would be passing a few minutes later, no photos though because yeah the sunrise was pretty “blah” and the shots were nothing special =(. Later in the morning after fueling up with coffee I walked back down to Centennial Olympic Park to catch the end of the race.

Yep, exactly two good photos from the finish! I dunno, I just wasn’t too into the race this year knowing that Miles was awake at home and that Bambi Cantrell was giving another awesome class this year on CreativeLive… which I think I am going to invest in buying the downloadable video files because the advice is just so valuable and applicable to wedding photography, which is where my heart is.
