Travel Photography From Our Destination Wedding in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Travel

Last weekend we traveled to Playa del Carmen in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan peninsula for a destination wedding. While of course it was a lot of work as a destination wedding, we’re basically photographing nonstop the entire time we are there from rehearsal dinners to the wedding itself to a day-after bridal session. Not that I’m complaining of course, we were doing what we love shooting weddings and the weather was simply amazing, 80 degrees compared to the 34 degree morning we left behind in Atlanta on the morning of our flight. Still editing photos and the video clips we took here and there, but here is a small collection of some of the more touristy travel photos we managed to sneak in during our trip.

Mariachi Band that the step-father of the groom hired to serenade him on the night before the wedding during our guy’s night.

Next, these three photos are simple scenes are photos randomly shot along “Avenida Quinta” or 5th Avenue, the main tourist strip through Playa del Carmen.

On Saturday we had a free day… after waking up at 5am to do our sunrise bridal portrait session along the beach =), so after our amazing photo shoot and grabbing coffee with the bride and groom we spent the afternoon seeing the Mayan ruins at Tulum. They’re not as large as the main Mayan ruins at Chichen-Itza, but these are only an hour away from Playa del Carmen and was a $100 USD taxi ride for the day versus the 2 and a half our one way trip to Chichen Itza.

Summer Vacation | China Trip 2015 Day 4 | Min Tai + Jimei
This is another quick Vacation post here on the ol' blog, a break from all the Indian weddings and engagements and traveling back and forth from New York to Atlanta! Day 4 of our vacation we headed to the outskirts of Xiamen to find Min Tai, an old ancient town that was turned into a tourist destination and then fell into misuse. Long gone are the buses of tourists to see some of "old China" but the locals are still hanging out on the streets of Min Tai, and the temple itself is still functioning of course. Interesting place to visit, not sure it would make my "Top 10 Sights of Xiamen" but interesting nonetheless! After spending the morning a ...

Summer Vacation | China Trip 2015 Day 9 | Wuyi Hiking Tea & Zhang Yimou’s Impression Dahongpao
Day 9 of our Summer trip to China saw yet another blazing hot Summer day, and more hiking in the mountains of the Wuyi area for us! We took a car in the morning to a more remote corner of Wuyi to hike this huuuuge waterfall area. On the bright side we took a little tram up to the peak and only had to hike down, but it was still a long day of walking in the mountains. However we were treated to pretty spectacular nature views which was much less crowded than the easier to access areas of Wuyi. Well, it was still crowded, this is China of course, but still quieter than other areas of China! All photos taken with the Sony A7ii mirrorless camera ...

Summer Vacation | China 2015 Day 1 & 2 | Xiamen & Gulangyu
This is the first post in a mini-series here on the blog from our Summer vacation where we headed over to China for two weeks in July during a little break in the wedding season (and Summer break for Betty's university). Feel free to skip these blog posts if you want to see the regular wedding content, but if you're interested in some photos of China read on! These were also all shot on the Sony A7ii with the 16-35mm f/4 OSS and 55mm f/1.8 Zeiss lenses. So, a little info there for camera geeks, I didn't bring my normal Canon 5D Mark III but took our newer small mirrorless camera which I loved! We started the trip flying out from JFK on Del ...
