Fall Roadtrip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Travel

Here is a quick vacation blog post as a break from all of the weddings and engagements I have been posting lately. Well, of course with us, the reason for the travel was a wedding itself. Last Wednesday I had a Pakistani wedding up in Kingsport, Tennessee at the Meadowview Marriott so Betty and Miles came with me for a quick overnight vacation. We drove up to Johnson City/Kingsport on Wednesday in time for the wedding and then took a leisurely route through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the way back. We really wanted to hit the Blue Ridge Parkway but maybe next time, or next year when Miles is a bit older as well. We could only stay for a few hours because we had to be back for tonight’s engagement session and a wedding on Saturday as well =). Fall will be making it’s way down to Atlanta VERY SOON, so enjoy the colors up North just a few hours away while you can! The top of Clingman’s Dome was already past peak color in the colder elevations.

Storm clouds, we didn’t get any rain but it was really cloudy, windy, and cold up there!

This was the view at Clingman’s Dome – clouds everywhere. We were definitely up in the clouds but not above them today, you could barely see in front of you so we didn’t get the full experience up there and the 360 degree view.

And yeah that 0.5 mile hike up to the dome? Not fun with a toddler!

Lastly, we pulled over here and there on the drive back to take in the Fall colors at the lower elevations which were full of oranges, reds, greens, and yellow! Truly beautiful to see in person!

Lastly, I had the GoPro hooked up in the car to record a bit of the drive, check out a short time lapse of the drive through the Smoky Mountains!

Travel | Tokyo, Japan Day 1 – Ikebukuro, Akihabara, Shibuya
After photographing in Sydney, Australia for a little over a week with both a destination Indian wedding and a couple days of personal travel, I took a few more days to travel for myself and ended up in Tokyo, Japan. I hadn't been to Japan since college and have always wanted to go back, so this was a perfect opportunity since I was on the other side of the world already =). I came back with tons and tons of photos, time lapses, and videos... with no real idea how I could possibly organize them and present them to the world! I think the video will come separately, and for now I will try to present everything I did each day as a way to share w ...

Travel Photography: Farmers in Rural Shanghai
This post comes as a welcome break from the more travel oriented posts about our time in Beijing. While Betty did some real work in Shanghai, I spent my time on assignment shooting at the various farms and greenhouses we visited in the suburbs an hour outside of Shanghai. While Betty was occupied talking about gerberas and tissue culture, as well as being the company’s official translator from Mandarin into English, I occupied my time with camera in hand! Language barrier running at an all-time high way out here in rural China, I did my best to communicate nonverbally. Most of the time I made things work using the simple action of smili ...

California Road Trip
We had our California road trip in September 2009. It was first time for both of us really to see California. We flew to San Fransisco, where we spent two days, and then rent a car driving toward south. We drove by Highway 1 through Monterey, Ventura, LA, and then finally San Diego. Both of us fell in love with Northern California. We got lucky in San Fransisco because the weather was perfect, which is rare for SFO. We rode bike across The Golden Gate Bridge, went to China Town, and then took a bus tour around the whole city, like any tourist. We both love the strong atmosphere of hippie culture of the city. We went to the famous Fishmen's W ...
