Fall Roadtrip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Travel

Here is a quick vacation blog post as a break from all of the weddings and engagements I have been posting lately. Well, of course with us, the reason for the travel was a wedding itself. Last Wednesday I had a Pakistani wedding up in Kingsport, Tennessee at the Meadowview Marriott so Betty and Miles came with me for a quick overnight vacation. We drove up to Johnson City/Kingsport on Wednesday in time for the wedding and then took a leisurely route through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the way back. We really wanted to hit the Blue Ridge Parkway but maybe next time, or next year when Miles is a bit older as well. We could only stay for a few hours because we had to be back for tonight’s engagement session and a wedding on Saturday as well =). Fall will be making it’s way down to Atlanta VERY SOON, so enjoy the colors up North just a few hours away while you can! The top of Clingman’s Dome was already past peak color in the colder elevations.

Storm clouds, we didn’t get any rain but it was really cloudy, windy, and cold up there!

This was the view at Clingman’s Dome – clouds everywhere. We were definitely up in the clouds but not above them today, you could barely see in front of you so we didn’t get the full experience up there and the 360 degree view.

And yeah that 0.5 mile hike up to the dome? Not fun with a toddler!

Lastly, we pulled over here and there on the drive back to take in the Fall colors at the lower elevations which were full of oranges, reds, greens, and yellow! Truly beautiful to see in person!

Lastly, I had the GoPro hooked up in the car to record a bit of the drive, check out a short time lapse of the drive through the Smoky Mountains!

New Website Launch! | Free Facebook Timeline Cover Photos
Our new website finally launched, woohoo! In between editing these wedding videos (Sorry Yusra & Rahil, Reesha & Neil!) I've been trying to get our new website finally up and running. On top of that our previous website hosting provider's contract is up in a month so that was the perfect motivation to get things running and switch website designs and hosting. While the website is about 90% complete, that's good enough to launch for me! I'm just missing a few galleries here and there as I rebuild the content from our previous wedding photography portfolio. So, why the need to change? If it's not broke, don't fix it... right? Well, our ...

Personal | Daytrip to the Great Smoky Mountains with Jing & Ping
I've been pretty good about pumping out the wedding-related posts, and even recently doing a quick write-up of a new restaurant in Downtown Altanta. What I have not done recently, is shared any personal photos of just our normal life, which mostly revolves around Miles of course. Well, most days for us are really not that exciting with a schedule of waking up, taking Miles to the park and/or museum, while either Betty works on her dissertation or I edit wedding photos/videos. A couple of weeks ago when it was still relatively chilly out, we headed up to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to take Betty's PhD classmate and visiting profess ...

Using a DSLR for HD Video Part 1: Shooting
Using a DSLR for HD Video Part 1: Shooting After my second attempt to put together a video, I thought I would share some tips and learning from the process. First, please take a look at this video, which was my first foray into HD DSLR video using the Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D: Babylon of the Orient from Zac & Betty FengLong Photography on Vimeo. One caveat, this is not my first edit of course! It took a lot of trial and error to get this one looking like it does above in the cutting room floor of Adobe Premiere Pro. However, I will speak about what works and what didn’t work as far as shooting the actual footage. This video will ...
