Fall in the City | New York City with the Sony A7R 2014

Travel

Going through some older photos from the end of 2014, here are a few from some walks around Manhattan =). Besides eating lots of ramen and drinking espresso, I love checking out the city for cool New York City engagement session locations or places for a pre-wedding photo shoot. These first few photos were taken with the handy Sony A7R, my favorite walk around camera (and reviewed as a wedding photographer’s camera in these links to other blog posts). Check out a few photos from this random afternoon grabbing some ramen and walking around the Chinatown/Brooklyn Bridge area of lower Manhattan with the A7R!

The last photo was from running into the Legend himself, David Hobby aka The Strobist, who was filming for his new Lynda.com training video with Andrew Tomasino at Brooklyn Bridge Park where I happened to be. Check out the series here: http://www.lynda.com/David-Hobby/2042130-1.html

New York City Christmas 2015 | Sony A7ii Travel Photography
New York City Christmas Even with this unseasonably warm Winter, it still looks like Christmas all around New York City! With the holiday displays in the windows and the lights installations around Manhattan, you can't help but feel the holiday magic (even if it's 60 degrees outside)! Being a Floridian at heart I think I'll take this warm weather, but I did wish we had a White Christmas this year for Miles to see =). All photos taken here with the Sony A7ii and Zeiss 16-35mm f/4 OSS lens of course! Bryant Park's fountain has not frozen yet, and the Winter Village with ice skating is full of people for the holidays! ...

Travel Photography: Farmers in Rural Shanghai
This post comes as a welcome break from the more travel oriented posts about our time in Beijing. While Betty did some real work in Shanghai, I spent my time on assignment shooting at the various farms and greenhouses we visited in the suburbs an hour outside of Shanghai. While Betty was occupied talking about gerberas and tissue culture, as well as being the company’s official translator from Mandarin into English, I occupied my time with camera in hand! Language barrier running at an all-time high way out here in rural China, I did my best to communicate nonverbally. Most of the time I made things work using the simple action of smili ...

Using a DSLR for HD Video Part 1: Shooting
Using a DSLR for HD Video Part 1: Shooting After my second attempt to put together a video, I thought I would share some tips and learning from the process. First, please take a look at this video, which was my first foray into HD DSLR video using the Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D: Babylon of the Orient from Zac & Betty FengLong Photography on Vimeo. One caveat, this is not my first edit of course! It took a lot of trial and error to get this one looking like it does above in the cutting room floor of Adobe Premiere Pro. However, I will speak about what works and what didn’t work as far as shooting the actual footage. This video will ...
